The Bridal Party Look

The lovely bride (you've already seen this dress)

The groom's look. White with pink vest and tie.

My bridesmaids. They can choose their own black dress.
The groom's men. Black with pink vest/ tie.

The ring bearer.

And I haven't decided about the flower girls. They may wear white dresses or pink dresses. I put this on our wedding website too, so guests can have an idea of what it will look like. But I have not put up my actual wedding dress there, because I want it to be a surprise! What do you think? It took me awhile to figure out how to coordinate everything, though it probably looks simple now, lol.

A Little Color Psychology For Ya

What Does the Color Pink Represent?

The color pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing.

Perfect! Just what I need to surround my wedding, and marriage!

A combination of red and white, pink contains the need for action of red, helping it to achieve the potential for success and insight offered by white. It is the passion and power of red softened with the purity, openness and completeness of white. The deeper the pink, the more passion and energy it exhibits.

Ok, so I have a little white mixed in there. Good, good.

Pink is feminine and romantic, affectionate and intimate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy.

Yep, that sounds like me! :D

Pink is intuitive and insightful, showing tenderness and kindness with its empathy and sensitivity.

Aww...

In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive color inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything will be okay.

Awesome. If anything happens on my wedding day, I'll be less likely to freak. And everyone around me, too.

Pink calms and reassures our emotional energies, alleviating feelings of anger, aggression, resentment, abandonment and neglect. Studies have confirmed that exposure to large amounts of pink can have a calming effect on the nerves and create physical weakness in people. Violent and aggressive prisoners have been successfully calmed by placing them in a pink room for a specified amount of time.

Yay! So I'll be a welcoming vision walking down the aisle. And creating physical weakness in people? Well, I want my groom to be weak in the knees when he sees me. I've got all my bases covered ;).

Hee hee. I love personality stuff like this. For as long as I can remember I've always been obssessed with color meaning, astrology, anything describing "personality." I don't know why! This was a fun way to brighten my spirits about the color of my dress. And what does white mean, for all you traditional brides?

The color white is cleanliness personified, the ultimate in purity!! This is why it is traditionally worn by western brides, and the reason why doctors wear white jackets.

White is color at its most complete and pure, the color of perfection. The color meaning of white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion.

In color psychology white is the color of new beginnings, wiping the slate clean, so to speak. It is the blank canvas waiting to be written upon. While white isn't stimulating to the senses, it opens the way for the creation of anything the mind can conceive.

I've taken this information from the website that I linked to on the right side of the page. Each color has really long explanations, and you can apply it to your life as well. Find your personality color, the colors of other people you know, or figure out which color representations you should work into your life more. According to this site, there are reasons why you like and hate certain colors. Interesting stuff!

Here is THE DRESS!!

I brought this dress in July. I had followed bride timelines, and they said I should buy my dress 12-9 months before the wedding. These timelines were given to me by search engines.

I bought the dress online for a great deal. It came in the mail, and I loved it. Then I put it in a gown bag, which now sits in my closet.

As time has passed, little agonizing thoughts have started popping into my head. They are as follows:

Why did you get a pink dress?

Why didn't you just wait for white one to go on sale?

You tried on white dresses, nothing looked good, and they were all overpriced.

Why should you wear white? Because someone says so?

Remember when you saw Jennifer Lopez in that goooorgeous light pink gown years ago in a photo...You were only a kid...but you said you had to have a dress like that? Well, here's your chance.

Its probably the only day you could wear a big white dress and now you won't even do it.

Will I look like the energizer bunny?

Your mom and your bridesmaids loved the dress, especially when you tried it on. They wouldn't lie to you about it.

It was affordable. You didn't want a ceremonial wedding in the first place. All you need to do is relax, look good, and have a good time. No one's expecting the bride of the century.

You wanted the dress to be pale, pale. It's not the exact color pictured online.

Oh well.

(End of thoughts.)

Thinking about all of these things, I don't regret going for a colored dress. I hardly have regrets about anything, because it's so hard for me to make a decision, and when I do it's usually what I want. So maybe I'm just doubting myself for no reason. I don't regret buying it online, because I would never have found a unique, affordable dress in a bridal store. I only regret listening to this imposing bridal dress timeline. I change day to day, let alone a full year after purchasing a dress. I always scour the site, hoping I don't find another dress I love equally and wishing I would have gotten that one.

In all, I'm a little insecure. I do love the dress. And my skin is pretty dark, so even though the dress is not as pale as I would have hoped, maybe it will have the same effect on me?

Welcome to my world of stupid, girlish concerns. Don't laugh too hard.

Welcome to My World

Today is the birthday of my fiance. How fitting that I should begin (again) my journey of blogging about our road to matrimony on this day.

Where do I start? We're engaged. We set the date. We booked the venue. I have the dress. We know the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Invitations will go out soon.

Oh yeah, I'm 20. Ok, got that out of the way.

And oh yeah, I'm the bride and I'm wearing pink. (!) That has inspired the title of my new blog. See how these things fit?

Well, I'm a little over 6 months from my wedding date, 6/12/10. And I had a blog (quietbride.blogspot.com) but I think this will be a better one for my ideas.

Let's see if I can keep this one up, shall we? I've got some things up my sleeve...

The Pink Bride
